It Is A Beautiful World, Tom Petty

Heard on KCSN this afternoon: The hook master extraordinaire, sending another earworm into the great wide open:

“Save Your Water,” is just as good, maybe better, and up next if you let it roll. But my favorite (so far) is “Beautiful World.” Which is new to me, but feels like it’s been playing in my head my entire life.

Like a lot of people saddened by his death, I took solace in spinning Tom Petty on Spotify, listening to tribute shows and reading more about his background. If Wikipedia holds true, his father was verbally and physically abusive, railing against Tom’s love of music and the arts.

Thankfully, Tom was able to get out. He stopped the cycle of violence. Many people who have been abused – myself included – somehow break free and take a different path.

Tom Petty took his father’s wrath and gave us this:

Mudcrutch: I Forgive it All
~featuring Anthony Hopkins

Take my horse down to the water
Let him graze awhile

I have not been down these roads since I was a child
I ain’t broke and I ain’t hungry but I’m close enough to care
I ain’t broke and I ain’t hungry but I’m close enough to care
Send my things to my niece Laura
She’ll keep ’em over there

I forgive it all, I forgive it all
With her, I forgive it all

There ain’t no money in this deal, I just tag along
There ain’t no money in this deal, I just tag along
Some things I feel right, somebody else thinks wrong

I forgive it all, I forgive it all
On this earth, I forgive it all

People are what people make em’, and that ain’t gonna change
People are what people make ’em, and that ain’t gonna change
There ain’t nothing you can do, nothing you could rearrange

I forgive it all, I forgive it all
On this earth, I forgive it all
